Background Information 
Professional profile:
Having completed my early training in Orthopaedics in Edinburgh, I moved South in 1992 to Great Ormond Street, Barts and the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital. I then become a Senior Lecturer and Honorary Consultant at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital and worked there until 1997. Following this, I took up the position as Consultant at what is now West Hertfordshire NHS Trust, in St Albans and Hemel Hempstead Hospitals.

Over the last 12 years I have been developing an instrument to remove bone cement for use in revision arthroplasty (joint replacement) and this machine, which is called Oscar, has featured on Tomorrow's World on two occasions. Oscar is now being used regularly in revision joint replacements in Britain, Europe and USA. Where appropriate, all revision joint surgery I carry out uses Oscar.
