After qualifying from Cambridge University in 1977, Mr Andrew Thurston initially pursued general surgical training, and subspecialised in urology during the early 1980s. He was initially appointed as a consultant urologist in 1992 at Doncaster, and moved south to Hertfordshire in 2000. Mr Thurston has considerable experience in general urology, but have also been trained in urological ultrasound, laparoscopy and holmium laser prostatectomy. He is keen on rapid assessment of urological problems, and has developed “one stop” clinics for haematuria and prostate problems in his NHS and private practice.
I am a keen violinist, and have played locally in both the Hertfordshire Philharmonic and the St Albans Symphony Orchestras, and nationally in the European Doctors’ Orchestra. I also have played in a number of charity events with a pianist.Whilst I do hold a pilot’s licence, since my eldest daughter (who is a fast jet pilot in the RAF) took me for a sortie in a Hawk jet, light aircraft seem somewhat pedestrian.I am also a member of the RSPB, and the National Trust, and my day is never complete without solving the Guardian crossword.
