Our consultant-led care

We aim to offer all our patients an appointment within five days of receipt of their GP referral. At your initial consultation our consultant will explain the treatment or management plan for your condition and will be able to answer any questions or concerns you may have about your condition and cover any possible side-effects allowing you to make an informed decision before proceeding. If surgery is required, your Consultant will explain the operation and its benefits to you in more detail.

Consultant lead care

The same consultant will assess and treat you. Our trained optometrist will carry out routine follow ups but will refer you back to your consultant if at any stage they feel this is necessary. Right from your initial telephone enquiry, through to treatment and discharge the same dedicated team will look after you. Our Consultant Ophthalmologists are supported by a highly trained nursing team to ensure that your visit is comfortable and relaxing. Our surgeons are on the General Medical Council (GMC) specialist register and our hospital complies with national healthcare guidelines.

Our consultants do more than just surgery

  • Lecturing colleagues, GPs and optometrists on latest techniques within their field of expertise
  • International and national courses
  • Invited guest lecturers in the UK and abroad
  • Scientific reviews for journals
  • Audit and clinical governance
  • Annual appraisal
