Jane Armstong
Speech and Language Therapist
BSc Speech Pathology & Therapy (1985, Edinburgh)

I qualified with a Bachelor of Science from Queen Margaret College (now University) in 1985 and have worked with children and adults ever since, taking time out to have my two children and to move to various interesting parts of the world with my husband.

In January 1989 I lived in Holland then moved to Perth, Western Australia, where I lived and worked for eight years before heading off to Brunei for two.  In 2000, we returned to Perth, WA, but home beckoned and we moved back to Scotland in October 2002.

I went private in August 2004 and focused my service delivery on adults and children in the following ways:

Adults: voice and people who have had strokes
Children: language cases and speech problem cases (called phonological problems).

At Murrayfield Hospital I run a weekly clinic and mainly use this clinic to see adults who have problems with their voices, such as hoarseness.  But I can also assess and treat strokes, and children with language and phonological problems.  I do not treat stammering, autism, or complex needs, but I am happy to advise you about these conditions and other service providers.

Janet Garcia
Speech and Language Therapist
MA(hons); BSc; DipClinical Hypnotherapy

I have worked as an NHS speech and language therapist since graduating from Queen Margaret University in 1990, maintaining my professional registration through practice and continuous professional development.  This has included post graduate training in cognitive neuro psychology (1995) and a continued interest in language and cognition.

I trained in dysphagia assessment and management to advanced level (Advance Practice Certificate 2000) and have been an active member of multidisciplinary approaches to diagnosis and treatment including lecturing and providing training.

I am an active member of professional specialist interest groups in the field of adult neurology. To this end, I promote effective clinical practice and have a specific interest in voice disorders that includes pre and post surgery voice care and, in particular, disorders for which there is no organic cause. Therapy approaches are designed to meet the patient’s individual clinical needs and I offer a range of treatments to support this, including training in clinical hypnotherapy (2003).

I have worked extensively with acquired disorders of speech and language. I provide assessment, individualised treatment packages and training in managing and supporting people with acquired disorders of communication for professionals and family members or carers,
