Gallbladder removal: what to expect at Spire Edinburgh Hospitals

You’ll be brought in for your consultation to begin with, and this will determine whether you require open and keyhole surgery. Both are straightforward, the only difference is the size of incision required. In the case of open surgery, this just means you may need to stay in hospital for a few days afterwards.

On the day of your operation, the team will show you to your private room where you can relax. Once everybody is ready, you’ll be escorted to theatre and given anaesthetic. After a few hours everything will be done, and you can recuperate in your private hospital room for however long is recommended.
