I undertook medical training in Oxford and later returned to do my DPhil research into the genetic basis of hand deformities. I underwent a full training in plastic surgery in Bristol, Oxford and London. From an early stage, I concentrated on hand surgery and to this end I did a hand fellowship in the Windsor Hand Clinic. During my first consultant post as a plastic surgeon in the Canniesburn Unit of Glasgow Royal Infirmary I had a major interest in hand surgery. In 2005 I was appointed lead hand consultant of the Regional Hand Service in St John's Hospital, and since then, to my delight, my entire practice has consisted of hand and wrist surgery. In my NHS post, I cover all aspects of hand/wrist pathology and trauma. My private practice covers the same.
