Simon qualified from Nottingham University Medical School in 1997 and trained in general urology in the East of Scotland. Whilst in training, he undertook an innovative 2-year research project into the relationship of prostatic tissue mechanical characteristics with benign and malignant prostate disease at the University of Edinburgh for which he was awarded the DM degree. His subspeciality training took him to Australia, where he spent a fellowship year training in upper tract laparoscopy and endourology at the St George Hospitals in Sydney, before returning to Scotland as fellow in endourology at the Scottish Lithotriptor Centre in Edinburgh. Simon has developed subspecialty expertise in laparoscopic renal surgery, extracoporeal shockwave lithotripsy, rigid and flexible ureteroscopy with laser stone fragmentation, and percutaneous stone surgery.
Simon is married with three children and lives in Edinburgh. He enjoys golf and racquet sports, and occasionally plays the clarinet.
