Patrick Addison graduated from Edinburgh University with medical and science degrees and a distinction in Surgery. He started Postgraduate Surgical Training in Edinburgh before moving to Canada to undertake a two year research fellowship at the University of Toronto, leading to the award of an MD degree for his thesis. Subsequently, he completed specialist training in Plastic and Reconstructive surgery both in Edinburgh and Newcastle.
He then returned to Canada to complete the renowned clinical fellowship in reconstructive microsurgery and breast surgery at the Toronto University Health Network and later followed this up with a clinical aesthetic fellowship in Los Angeles county and San Diego, California.
Currently he is appointed as a consultant Plastic Surgeon in Edinburgh with responsibility for adult and paediatric services at St John's Hospital and the Royal Hospital for Sick Children. In his NHS practice, he has a specialist interest in cancer and trauma reconstruction (including head, neck and breast), facial reanimation and paediatric plastic surgery and burns. In the private sector, he has an interest in a broad range of aesthetic surgery including breast augmentation and reduction, uplifts, rhinoplasty, body contouring surgery, abdominoplasty and facial cosmetic surgery.
He has published many original articles in medical journals, presented at national and international conferences and has written two book chapters for surgical texts.
