Professional profile:
I am senior surgeon at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh and a general paediatric surgeon. As such, my surgical practice is confined to the paediatric age group rather than to an organ specialty. I have more than 20 years' experience in paediatric surgery dealing with patients from the neonatal period to the late teens. I have a major interest in minimally invasive surgery, believing in the importance of minimal scarring but safe surgery. A large proportion of my workload is urological and these techniques of minimal access surgery are used in that area too.
Personal profile:
I have three children of my own and am well aware of parental anxieties when their children require surgery. My spare time is devoted to my family and I am also a church elder.My wife and I enjoy travel and fine food and wine.
