The Edinburgh Breast Unit, where I currently hold my NHS position, is one of the largest breast units in the UK, it deals with over 7,000 new patient referrals and 12,000 review patients, The cancer workload of the unit amounts to over 770 new breast cancer patients and a further 150 recurrent cancer cases. I provide a specialist service for the diagnosis and management of all forms of breast cancer but specialise in screen detected and familial abnormalities, including breast reconstruction and other onco-plastic techniques. I integrate closely with a number of other disciplines including pathology, radiology, oncology and clinical genetics. I continue to provide clinical and administrative leadership for the Familial Breast Cancer Clinic in addition to co-ordinating Adinex research programmes. This is a clinic I initiated and developed in 1992 and has formed the basis of significant National and International Research.

My current position is that of Consultant Breast Surgeon in the Edinburgh Breast Unit. I have been in post since 1994 and specialise in medical and surgical management of breast disease only. I am also the Clinical Director for Breast and Plastic Surgery for NHS Lothian.
As a female I am able to offer the opportunity to be treated by a doctor of the same gender to those women for whom this is important. My personal ethos has always been centred on high quality person centred care in a multidisciplinary setting.
