With the busy lifestyle that many of us lead nowadays, it can be easy to forget that our most vital asset is good health. Many of us rarely take stock of our lifestyle and wellbeing and think about how we can prevent any future health problems. Spire Murrayfield Hospital in Edinburgh offers Bupa Health Assessments, which assess your current state of health and can be a simple way to achieve peace of mind and obtain some good guidance on how to maintain wellbeing.
Mike Blair, Scotland and Edinburgh Rugby Captain and British and Irish Lions squad member, recently attended for a Health Assessment at the Spire Murrayfield Hospital.
“Getting a Health Assessment done was something I’d been thinking about for a while,” Blair said. “I spoke to the team doctor and physio and they thought it would be a good thing to do. I’d never had anything like that done before and I think it just clears your mind. For me that was it really, just to get a bit of peace of mind- to get a clean bill of health.”
Through an extensive questionnaire, a wide range of tests and a lengthy consultation with a doctor, Mike’s assessment was able to provide advice tailored to his needs. Most Health Assessments take between 1½ to 2 hours to complete, providing people with a one-stop snapshot of their overall health.
The reassurance and advice obtained from a Health Assessment is invaluable, something that Blair will be delighted to have as he jets off to South Africa having yesterday become Scotland’s third member of the British and Irish Lions touring party.
“Overall it was really reassuring. It’s great to get positive feedback and know that you have that clean bill of health, that you’re fine, doing the right things and leading a healthy lifestyle. And on the flipside, if you were someone who possibly wasn’t doing the right things and you needed to be told which directions you needed to be going in then it would be really valuable,” Blair commented.
One of the common reasons that people opt to have a Health Assessment is the lengthy, personalised consultation with a doctor which is included. Results from the various tests are discussed during this consultation, and it also gives individuals the opportunity to talk at length about any worries and concerns they have about their health. Should any problems be detected in the test results, an immediate course of action can be recommended and implemented.
There are several different types of Health Assessment available through the Bupa Wellness centre at Spire Murrayfield Hospital.
