"...A report from the Royal College of Surgeons claims that increasing the availability of surgery to correct obesity could save the taxpayer large amounts of money on unemployment and other benefits. The report was commissioned by the National Obesity Forum and two drug companies. it says too few of those patients eligible for surgery under National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence guidelines get access to it. Primary Care Trust Network director David Stout said: "NHS finances are tighter than ever and PCTs need to balance their priorities across a wide range of services, while taking into account NICE guidance in the context of local needs."
