I have a busy clinical practice in general neurosurgery, undertaking between 300-400 cases per year. I have specialist interests in spinal, cerebrovascular and skull base surgery having received sub-speciality fellowship training in these areas in the USA. Whilst on fellowship, I gained proficiency in minimally invasive (keyhole) surgery techniques and performed the first keyhole lumbar discectomy in the region, shortly after my return. My spinal practice includes treatment of spinal trauma, infection and tumours, and all aspects of degenerative spinal disease including disc prolapse and spinal stenosis. 80% of spinal practice is now performed using minimally invasive (keyhole) techniques including day case lumbar discectomy and decompressions. My research interests to date have been in developing novel imaging techniques for assessment of vascular disease and have evolved to evaluate novel strategies in the treatment of spinal disorders. I have supervised numerous research student projects and currently co-supervise a PhD student thesis. I have trained fellows in both cerebrovascular and spine surgery, and am currently Co-Director of the Cambridge Spine Fellowship.
I am an energetic and enthusiastic individual who enjoys travelling, music and the arts.
I have a young family and when not working, enjoy spending time with them. I am a keen sportsmen and interested in all sporting activities but in particular, football, cricket and tennis which I play on a regular basis. I also provide medical cover for a premiership football club and the London Amateur Boxing Association and have undertaken charity surgical missions to Haiti and India.
