I have the largest practice in mitral valve reconstruction in the country and one of the largest in Europe with over 2,500 valves repaired and reconstructed. I lead many educational events in this subject at home and abroad. I also have had a long term interest in all valve surgery in the heart with large numbers operated upon. My audited figures last year revealed an overall mortality of <50% of the predicted logisitic Euroscore risk adjusted data. I also have a long term interest and experience in the management of Aortic disease.
I also have a very large thoracic practice which I have maintained over the last 23 years. I organised and set up the first 2 stop lung cancer service in the UK approx 2 years ahead of the Calman proposals. I am very well versed in ALL surgery within the chest and have always taken an interest in the benign conditions of the chest such as Pectus Deformities, Hypherdrosis and thoracic outlet syndrome.

In my private life I have a significant profile within the Arts. I am completing many years work on the Anatomical drawings of Leonardo da Vinci, focussing particularly on the Heart. A book on the subject is to be published within the next year. I lecture widely on the subject.
In addition I encourage significant interaction between artists and scientists having had several artists in residence with me over last 10 years.
