Spire Cambridge Lea Hospital has embarked on a £1.7 million development plan that includes a state-of-the-art fixed 64 slice CT scanner and an additional theatre, taking our number of operating theatres to five.
The 64 slice CT scanner, the Toshiba Aquilion, is designed for outstanding performance and will provide patients with easier access to CT appointments.
CT (computerised tomography) uses X-ray equipment and a computer to create detailed images (scans) of the inside of your body including bones, soft tissues and the brain. The images can be seen in two and three dimensions.
CT scans can help look for signs of inflammation, disease or cancer and to monitor many health conditions.
The new Toshiba Aquilion will replace the mobile CT scanning facility which currently operates from the hospital one day each week.
Hospital Director, Neil McCullough said “moving from a one day a week service to the full time availability of vastly superior imaging equipment will mean easier access and faster diagnosis for our patients. The wide range of applications available on our new unit represents a huge step forward and positions the Cambridge Lea as a one stop shop for CT scanning”.
The new theatre, complete with laminar flow, an air system which helps reduce the risk of infection, will be completed by January 2010 and will provide greater flexibility to our consultants and their patients.
