Minimally Invasive Spinal Surgery at Spire Cambridge Lea Hospital

Spire Cambridge Lea Hospital, is pleased to be the only private hospital to offer a new treatment for spinal conditions using the latest techniques. The minimally invasive procedures are performed by Consultant Neurosurgeons Miss Helen FernandesMr Rod Laing, Mr Richard Mannion and Mr Rikin Trivedi.

"This sort of keyhole surgery, is not only minimally invasive but equally effective, and in a lot of respects better in terms of recovery and rehabilitation"
Mr Rikin Trivedi
Consultant Neurosurgeon

With traditional open surgery, surgeons cut or strip back muscles to expose the damaged part of the spine they need to treat. A new technique has been developed which dilates the back muscles and includes the insertion of a tube into the natural separations of the muscles. This way, surgeons are able to access and treat the damaged portion of the spine through a much smaller incision, to minimize disruption of the surrounding tissue.

Benefits of the minimally invasive procedures include smaller incisions, less tissue disruption, shorter hospital stays and less blood loss, speedy recovery times with less pain enabling patients to get back to normal activities much quicker.

This treatment is not available for everyone. Please consult Mr Rod Laing, Mr Richard Mannion and Mr Rikin Trivedi to discuss the best treatment options for your condition.
